Hi! My name is Louise, and I have a long history beta-reading and proofreading published novels and novellas. With a BA(hons) in Film Studies, I have a strong knowledge of story structure, characterisation, plot and pacing. Get in touch!

Portfolio

With a focus on plotting, pace, characters, world-building, and tone, I will read your manuscript and supply thorough feedback with an overall write-up, along with inline notes throughout the text (if a google or word doc is supplied). The reader report will be detailed, looking from both a reader and author perspective. I will also make use of the google doc or word commenting feature to leave my reactions as I go along, and correct any grammar or spelling issues I spot.

My feedback will be detailed, and I will include comments on:

  • Individual Character Impressions
  • Plotting: flow, pacing, twists, interest
  • World-building/ Setting: not just for fantasy, discussions of the world you have created around your characters
  • Writing Style: including advice on improvements and a line edit
  • Tone: does it fit the genre? Is your voice/ your characters voice strong?
  • Overview: including strengths/ weaknesses and brief summary
  • Any particular questions you have

I read manuscripts of all fiction genres and lengths (no non-fiction), just get in touch if you’d like to confirm we’re a good fit.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Working with Louise was such a rewarding experience. She gave me thoughtful, honest, and detailed feedback on my manuscript, always constructive, never harsh. She has a sharp eye for both big-picture themes and small details, and she really understood the heart of my story! What I appreciated most was how supportive and encouraging she was throughout; I always felt like she wanted the book to be the best version of itself, and she helped me see it with fresh eyes🤍 I’d absolutely recommend her to any writer looking for insightful, compassionate, and professional feedback.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐I'm so glad I worked with Louise on my novel. She had great attention to detail and picked my manuscript apart to pinpoint exactly the points where more work was needed. It was more than a beta read, and almost stepping into the territory of developmental editing, which is something I really appreciated.

***PLEASE DO NOT ORDER WITHOUT CONTACTING ME FIRST.***

Beta readings do not guarantee positive feedback. If you are sensitive to critical feedback, please consider other options.

I will provide you with a feedback letter covering the following:

  • Readability of your manuscript. In other words, how quickly was the book read, how much did your reader enjoy it, and where did it drag?
  • Reader’s opinion. As a reader, what did your reader think of your plot, characters, and writing style?
  • Positives and negatives. What about the book did your reader love or hate?
  • Questions. As a reader, what questions do we have about the story? Its up to you to decide whether this is what you want readers to be asking themselves when reading.
  • Brief discussion of your manuscript. Limited to broad question and answer format.

Feedback will be provided in the form of a PDF. You are welcome to submit a list of questions as a guide, but they will not be reviewed until after the reading and after the letter is written.

Accepted genres:

  • Sci-fi/Fantasy
  • Horror
  • Crime/Thriller/Mystery
  • Romance
  • MG/YA
  • Literary
  • Speculative
⭐⭐⭐⭐I feel that the review and notes I was given after the beta read were worth the money spent on the services. For the most part I am satisfied with the final result.

Ghostwrite a Functional Medicine Book

I created an outline and ghost wrote a book on functional health and holistic healing. The book required extensive research and creating a unique perspective/voice on the subject. The book was published late 2023 with over fifty 5-star ratings for the client.

Personal Brand Book Author

This was a personal project. The cost of the project was the cost of publishing and getting feedback from professional authors and editors. I found that new authors had many of the same questions regarding writing and publishing their books. I felt I could author a book that addressed many of their questions. I wrote and edited the book, designed the cover and layout, and self-published it. The book made it to the top 20 on Amazon within the first two weeks of publishing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Absolutely fantastic work, cant wait to continue working on the second part of my book.
